OptiClean: Optical sensor for industrial washing
Elodys International has developed an optical sensor, OptiClean.
This sensor allows for the optimization of the cleaning phases of processes. Based on a principle of UV and IR spectrophotometry, it enables online measurement of the variation in pollution contained in CIP solutions, thus determining the optimal washing recipe. It also allows for better sorting of washing solutions based on their actual level of contamination, rather than presumed.
Complementary to the conductivity meter that manages concentration and phase changes, to the temperature probe that adjusts the thermal factor, and to the flow meter that allows monitoring of the mechanical factor in the washing process, Opticlean becomes the essential tool for managing the timing of washing sequences as closely as possible to actual needs. It becomes THE sensor for cleaning in place.

The OptiClean is effective in assisting with qualification, making it a key tool for the Quality department on one hand, because indeed, where the time for each washing sequence is defined empirically, the Plants have no physical measurement to validate that the time is correct: neither too long (costs) nor too short (bacterial risk).

Why use OptiClean?
By adjusting cleaning times, OptiClean optimizes the costs of CIP operations (productivity, kWh/T, losses) and their environmental impacts (water and energy consumption, and even caustic soda).

OptiClean to assist with qualification
Our approach aims to train our clients, to make them self-sufficient, and then to provide support when the specificity or complexity of the subject requires it.

OptiClean to assist with qualification
Opticlean indeed has multiple advantages, such as those described earlier, which make it a unique tool. In addition, it is supported by a complete value chain that includes strong expertise from our teams to assist with deployment and, above all, with performance interpretation and diagnostics.
Our approach aims to train our clients, to make them self-sufficient, and then to provide support when the specificity or complexity of the subject requires it.

BARcip derives a large part of its value from the expertise that the two co-developing companies, namely Elodys International and Dametis, have been able to instill.

Then, the installation and connection of opticlean to any automation system is extremely simple using the two 4-20 mA signals from each sensor.
This value chain is complemented by a very innovative application due to its capabilities, features, and also its design. Thus, BARcip derives a large part of its value from the expertise that the two co-developing companies, namely Elodys International and Dametis, have been able to instill.

Feedback, ANTARTIC factory Agromousquetaire group (2024)
The ANTARTIC site was required to conduct a water conservation audit in order to limit its impact on the resource and allow for the development of the site. "A water audit involves mapping all the pipelines. Where it comes from, where it goes through, where it goes."
Frédéric Coutand, Technical Manager at Antartic
“The main objective is primarily quality, but water and time saving is important due to the saturation of some lines.”
Grégory Lubin, Performance Coordinator for syrup production at Antartic
This audit conducted by Mr. Boris NORMAND from the Elodys team highlighted numerous opportunities, particularly a significant potential in washing processes.
By instrumenting 4 lines of NEP out of the 20 at the site, the plant has achieved the following savings: "35,000 m³ of water, over 1,000 hours of washing time, and 20 MWh of electrical energy per year."
+ 30,000 m³
Water saved each year
+1 020 hours
Hours of CIP saved each year
+ 20 MWh
Electricity saved each year
Elodys International is pleased to have collaborated closely for many years with the Lactalis Group, particularly with the "energy-environment" service team. For nearly 20 years, the Lactalis plant in Laval has been a pioneer and partner in numerous tests and developments proposed by Mr. BARRAULT, focusing on actions to reduce energy and water consumption.
In fact, the site was one of the first to take on the challenge and use our Opticlean sensors. This video presents the results obtained after more than 3 years of collaboration and the ramp-up of daily use of these innovative sensors.
Les réductions de temps de lavage sont très significatives, mais également les impacts en terme de réduction des consommations d’eau de rinçage : ainsi en 2019, plus de 1800 heures de CIP économisées par an et plus de 8 000 m3 d’eau économisée chaque année.

Feedback, Lactalis Laval factory (2018-2020)

Video Vincent Ramette, Director of Lactalis Laval Factory, ultra-fresh dairy products
“The gains from optimization are significant. More than 8000m³ of water and 1800 hours of cleaning are saved each year.”
Vincent Ramette, Plant Manager Lactalis Laval

The reductions in washing time are very significant, as are the impacts in terms of reducing rinse water consumption: thus, in 2019, over 1800 hours of CIP saved per year and more than 8,000 m3 of water saved each year, with a significant improvement plan underway.
